I just read this Article about changing people’s view points. Lets say you believe that the transit tax is a bad idea. I have two ways I can persuade you. I can first make you agree with me on minute ideas, and then slowly transition to making me agree with the transit idea, by making you come to the conclusion yourself. The other way, as this article describes, is to make an exaggerated, extreme view of your view. For example, I can ask you if you’d agree if we should not fund transit at all for any seniors, disabled, and blind. I think that most people will identify this as an extreme view, and wouldn’t identify with it. But by saying this, I push people towards my side.
